With a stronger than anticipated snowstorm heading north, the Academic Team travelled south to play in its second Centennial High School tournament in Ellicott City, MD. The morning drive was uneventful and after the opening rounds of competition the A-team found itself in 9th place. But the snow had arrived in force and the remainder of the competition was cancelled as teams scrambled to make it home. A trip that took just over two hours in the morning required more than six on the way home. Packed in a van, the team made the best of a long day by playing games and providing traction on the slippery roads.
Despite the challenges and the abbreviated tournament, the A-team’s high finish in the field of sixty teams qualified them for the National Championships in Chicago this spring. Kyle Kobilka led the scoring for the team with strong support from Gina Vitale, Savannah Mudd, and India Reiss.
